About Cyndi:

Knowledge Box Central was born from many years of a love for crafts....and a combination of frustration, desperation and necessity. Teaching my youngest daughter has been an enormous challenge. Our daughter is extremely intelligent, as I have found many homeschool children to be, very active, very talkative, very demanding, persistent to the point of obsession, clearly in charge and in need of a few teaspoons of patience.

Most of you are probably familiar with the basic learning styles such as Visual, Auditory and Tactile or Kinesthetic. Most of us know what our preferred style of learning is as well. With my daughter I found that addressing one or the other wasn't working. I was frustrated, failing (I thought), and at my wits end.

The success we had with creating our own lapbook for a tadpole to frog science project proved to be a lot of fun, and it kept my daughter's interest - and best of all, she was learning! We ended up with a big over-blown "lapbook on steroids" to keep as somewhat of a memento. It folded out left and right and up and down and then folded out again downward and to the left and right. It was a pretty crazy memento. But, summarily that is what got us "hooked" on this style of teaching and learning.

I started sharing the information with friends at our co-ops and taught some of them. I used the lapbooks to teach their kids in our co-op. As time permitted, I began working on a few ideas for our Tapestry of Grace Co-op. As my husband and I considered marketing the idea, I put some material together to offer for sale. I found, rather courteously under the circumstances, that I was treading on Tapestry's Proprietary Intellectual Property and was restricted. However, at the same time, Tapestry of Grace asked to consider working with Dana Caywood and Marcia Somerville in customizing lapbooks to coincide with their year plans and unit studies. For this I will always be grateful. Their acceptance has been a source of confidence and credence that has given me the opportunity to fill a void within and to give my husband the chance to work from home by taking on the operations and finances.

Dealing with Multiple Sclerosis presents a lot of challenges and takes its toll in every facet of my life - from my health (or lack thereof), to financial strains, to emotional drains. It is God's blessing that I can write when I want to and rest when I need to. It is very frustrating to have a active mind, but a body that doesn't cooperate. However, God is good. He gave me something that I can do to keep me from feeling like a "couch potato" everyday. At least my mind can work on the days that my body rebels! I have a degree in nursing and am a Registered Nurse......and my inability to perform the duties that go along with that degree weighs on me from time to time. In December of 2007, I was able to graduate with my Ph.D. in Education! I would have NEVER been able to accomplish that goal without Knowledge Box Central.

My family is the BIGGEST support I have! My husband is a GIFT from God. He loves me with an unconditional love that I never knew existed. And, he loves our daughter with a precious love that no daughter should be without. Our home is truly blessed to be led by him. And my heart is blessed to be shared with the two of them.

Please feel free to join in with the KBC family. My newsletters (Knowledge Box Knews) are a bit "off the cuff," with my "Redhead Ramblings," so beware! LOL! I welcome emails with questions, concerns, and suggestions!

Blessings,

Cyndi Kinney, R.N., Ph. D.
